Knowing Her Place - Celebrating International Women's Day 2025

  • Narryna Heritage Museum Inc 103 Hampden Road Battery Point, TAS, 7004 Australia (map)

To celebrate International Women’s Day, Narryna Heritage Museum will be holding an event focused on the resilience, resourcefulness, and contributions of the women who lived and worked in colonial Tasmania. This morning tea and illustrated talk will highlight the lives of the Haig family, particularly Elizabeth Haig, the first mistress of the house, and the convict women who were assigned to work in the Haig household in the 1830s and 40s. This event aims to raise awareness of women’s roles in shaping Tasmania’s early colonial history and explore the challenges they faced in areas such as economic security, leadership, safety, and health and wellbeing. By sharing these stories, we hope to promote women’s achievements, reflect on their struggles, and foster a deeper understanding of their impact on Tasmanian society.

Please join us on the 14th of March at 10.30 am at Narryna.
